We spent the month of March 2022 thoroughly exploring a small region in the very south of Chilean Patagonia, never venturing more than 70 miles (12 km) from Torres del Paine National Park. We drove a total of 771 miles (1,240 km) during our road trip in Chile in March of 2022, and each one of those miles was spectacular.

Those jagged peaks to the right are called Los Cuernos (The Horns) and they form part of the iconic central peaks of Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.

South American road trip in Chile March 2022

We began the month of March 2022 at the Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa on the edge of Torres del Paine National Park (get details in our full review of Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa). Next, we stayed at Patagonia Camp (get details in our full review of Patagonia Camp), then we spent a few days at Estancia Cerro Guido.

Two of the 15 individual pumas we saw in and around Torres del Paine National Park during our road trip in Chile in March of 2022.

While based at these hotels we focused on hiking in various areas of the park and seeking out more pumas after our great sightings in February. Turns out, our luck hadn’t changed and we saw a total of 15 individual pumas in and around Torres del Paine National Park in March of 2022.

Another epic Torres del Paine sunset.

During the second half of March, we based ourselves in the nearby town of Puerto Natales where we continued to make several trips to Torres del Paine National Park to hike and learn more about the puma conservation that’s taking place (or not taking place) in the area. We also spent time learning more about the awesome Last Hope Distillery and Bar in Puerto Natales…

See what we saw out there on the road in Chile in March of 2022 (including some glimpses of puma) in our dashcam drive-lapse video, below. It was, as always, shot by our Brinno camera which is attached to our dashboard at all times.
