Denali mountain, sometimes still called Mount McKinley even though President Obama officially sanctioned the peak’s original name, is named for an Athabascan Indian word that means “The High One.” And it is. Denali is the tallest peak in North America at 20,320 feet (6,194 meters). The mountain is most often photographed from within Denali National Park but we got this shot of the peak from the south side after finding a locals-only vantage point on a remarkably clear day.

Love the reflection! I’d love to try and climb McKinley one day…
Great shot. It looks so peaceful. It would be a dream to wake up every day, look out my window, and see something so magnificent. Good luck with your online store.
Love that you showed an alternate perspective. The path less traveled, so to speak!
Great shot, Eric! Is this Wonder Lake? We got some remarkably clear views of the Great One when we went to Denali, but the only reflection shot required me to hike through some ridiculously mosquito-infested tundra. I ixnayed that idea after about 10 minutes of being attacked…
Hi Bret,
No this shot was not taken from Wonder Lake. I actually took it from the south side of McKinley from a vantage point outside Denali National Park. And if you want to enjoy Wonder Lake without mosquitoes visit Denali in September/October. It’s cold, but no bugs!
Beautiful! Looks so peaceful
Amazing pic. I love the way it draws you in.
Wow. What a shot!
Gorgeous photo, I love the reflection!
Glorious scene! We may not have mountains in Nelspruit (South Africa) but we have some pretty stunning vistas ourselves – maybe you should visit our neck of the woods one day
Gorgeous! I have a friend who lives about 4 hours from Denali National Park, and I’d love to go someday.
Yes you do!
Love! Alaska is somewhere I MUST go!
It is inspirational that you have been on the road traveling, photographing, and writing for over 5 years. Keep up the great work.
ohhhh and amazing photograph of Denali… brings back lots of memories from that 23 day expedition…Enjoy the south pacific zone of Costa Rica… Pura Vida
Beautiful! Just like a postcard!
I really need to start exploring more of North America. Beautiful photo of a beautiful place.
super scenic locations and very alluring pics…Love them
Such a stunning place! Every place has its beauty. I have heard that the Blue Ridge Mountains for example has a twin in South Africa called Magoebaskloof. A twinning peace of beautiful scenery haha. I have always wanted to visit Denali, hopefully one day!
Such a gorgeous shot! Thanks for sharing this true beauty with us.
