January 2012 road trip in Costa Rica
For us, the New Year began in La Fortuna, the town nearest to Arenal Volcano. Then we headed over to the Poas Volcano before returning to the capital, San Jose. A few days later our friend Dos came down to visit, so we picked him up at the airport and drove right back to La Fortuna to soak in the hot springs.
Then it was off to the lazy beach town of Playa Hermosa and south along the Pacific Coast to Manuel Antonio National Park in Quepos. To finish up Dos’s trip, we headed to Siquerres on the other side of the country so that we could spend 2-days white water rafting on the Pacuare River. Then it was back to San Jose to drop Dos off at the airport (sniff).
On our own again, we went to see the annual fair in Palmares, the biggest in the country, followed by some time checking out a few hotels in and around the Central Valley. We ended the month by heading out to Cartago and the beautiful Orosi Valley.
