In April of 2019, we drove a mere 985 miles (1,585 km), less than a third of the driving we did during mileage-heavy March. We spent the first half of the month exploring Buenos Aires. Toward the end of the month, we crossed Argentina and headed to Mendoza with a stop at two wonderful estancia hotels along the way.

Lovely Estancia La Bamba de Areco.
April 2019 South American road trip driving route in Argentina
After a few weeks spent enjoying the sophistication of Buenos Aires, it was time to hit the road. Before crossing Argentina to get to Mendoza, we visited two estancias (large farms in Argentina’s Pampa) that have been converted into luxury hotels. First, we headed south of Buenos Aires to stay at Estancia La Bandada. From there we traveled west of Buenos Aires to enjoy the horses, polo, and food at Estancia La Bamba de Areco.

Not a bad view of one of the first brief snows of the season dusting the Andes of the season as seen from our current housesit.
Full of luxury and great food, we spent the next three days driving across Argentina to reach the city of Mendoza. After a few days in Mendoza, we drove about an hour south of the city into the Uco Valley in the heart of Mendoza wine country. We’ll be spending the entire month of May in a small village here housesitting an amazing place with 4 dogs, 1 cat, and a view to die for.
