April 2011 road trip in Guatemala

We started the month by finishing up our trek to the El Mirador Mayan archaeological site in the very north of Guatemala. After the trek we recuperated in the island town of Flores on Lake Peten Itza then headed down to Sayaxche which was the jumping off point for a boat trip up Lake Petexbatun to the Aguateca Mayan site. We also visited the Mayan sites of Ceibal and Dos Pilas.

From there, we headed south down to the gorgeous colonial town of Antigua in central Guatemala where we enjoyed Semana Santa, the largest Easter Week celebration in the Americas.
